Aerolineas Argentinas, nacionalni avioprevoznik Argentine, potpisaće krajem oktobra sporazum o pristupanju Sky Team alijansi. Očekuje se da će puno priključenje prve latinoameričke aviokompanije ovoj alijansi biti zaključeno najkasnije do 2012. godine. Ulaskom ove kompanije alijansa će značajno popraviti svoje prisustvo u Južnoj Americi. Članovi alijanse Air France, Alitalia i Air Europa imaju tradicionalno jake linije između Evrope i Južne Amerike dok KLM ima razvijen saobraćaj sa Centralnom Amerikom i Karibima. Priključenjem Aerolineas Argentinas-a alijansa će osnažiti svoje prisustvo na ovom kontinentu i dodatno pojačati postojeće linije iz Evrope ka jugu omogućivši putnicima nove brojne konekcije unutar samog kontinenta.
Aerolineas Argentinas raspolaže sa 44 aviona, od kojih je 10 širokotrupnih (A340 i B747). Iz baze u Buenos Airesu leti do 50-tak argentinskih i južnoameričkih gradova kao i do Meksiko Sitija, Majamija, Sidneja, Oklenda, Rima, Madrida i Barselone. Kompanija se tokom 2002. godine našla pred nestajanjem usled kreditne krize. Međutim postignut je dogovor sa kreditorima. 2005. kompaniju potresa veoma težak štrajk pilota i nakon toga se nastavlja kriza, da bi 2008. bila nacionalizovana i spašena od gašenja.
Sky Team je druga po veličini svetska avio alijansa. Formirana je 2000. pod patronatom Air France-a zajedno sa AeroMexicom, Delta Air Lines-om i Korean Air-om. Sky Team godišnje preveze 462 miliona putnika. Poseduje skoro 3000 aviona i leti do preko 900 destinacija u 169 zemalja nas vim kontinentima. Godišnji prihod alijanse je 98 milijardi dolara.
